THE WISDOM OF ORPHEUS

©1982.

Orpheus learnt the great calm
that comes from spent passion
in a true cause;
knew he had clung close
to the Great Laws,
and was no contemptible person.

At last, rested, he broke the silence
with a passionate scream!
And for once . . . people listened,
as well as trees.
