SOLOMON
AND SHEBA

©1982.

Her breasts in the sun like a hammer
on his eyes of copper fire;  he in open midnight robes
seems more naked than her waist.
viziers and high priests concubines and courtiers
around in a circle;  servants bend,
leave candied apples
before them on a table.

Solomon to Sheba: "Take."

A thin hand snatches a date and toys with it,
with her lips.  Her eyes watch him;  she
teases as she smiles.

Solomon:  "I cannot sleep or rest.
You eat me, and what's undone."

Sheba smiles.  Her lips toy moistly
with the hanging fruit.
Then he reaches in hunger for her.
She laughs.  And her breasts shake.
