Infrequently-Asked Questions

What do the words 'HOC FECIT' mean on my logo?

'Hoc Fecit' is Latin, and means "He made this". It was the traditional form for signing artwork in Roman times.

Are there any good movies that feature casting?

Actually, no-one has ever asked me this question, so I had to ask it myself. And the answer is 'Yes'.

The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), starring Alec Guinness and Stanley Holloway, is a marvellous film, one of the classic Ealing comedies of the 1950's.

From a metalworker's point of view, it features some interesting scenes of casting in a small foundry, using metal moulds and large furnaces and crucibles. And later in the movie, there is a cameo appearance by that well-known oxidizing agent, nitric acid.
