QUESTION 189:
 In order to be saved must I ask the Lord to saved me?

ANSWER: I know of no place in the Bible where  sinners are told to ask God to save them.   It seems that Satan, who is a master deceiver, is constantly working to lure people away from the true way to be saved. He gets them to believe  in their asking.  Many will say that they are saved because they ask Jesus to save them. In tent meetings in one place we  met many who said they were saved because they confessed their sins and asked Jesus to come into their heart. Now it is possible to be saved that way, but that alone is not enough.
   
The Bible says we must repent and believe the gospel (Mark 16:15) You can ask without believing and you can confess without repenting.  Too many are trusting in their asking and not really trusting Christ.  There are many things you can do and not be saved, like walking the aisle in a church, sign a decision card, say the sinner’s prayer.  Some are saved that way, but they must do more than that.  A dear lady was at some meetings we were having that said she left and stopped at a red light, and before it turned  green she was saved.  No, you don’t have to do that to be saved and you do not need to hear a voice or see a light from heaven like Saul (Paul) did, but you must come to that place where you realize you are a sinner and lost to God. This is the essence of repentance. As such you must trust with all your heart in what Jesus did for you on the cross.  He died for your sins. (1 Cor. 15:3,4) Paul was a chosen vessel to the Gentile world. His message is very clear on salvation in Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 
   
John writes, “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is  the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” John 20:31
   
Peter says, To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43
   
The assurance of salvation, after you repent and trust in Christ, is the promises God gives you when you do that. He  had all the prophets say, that there was salvation in His name.  It was offered to “‘whosoever’ they were to embrace it by believing.  That is all we can do. He then says they would receive remission (forgiveness) of sins.   This is what you need to do to be saved. It is yours when you repent and trust in Christ. Do it now,  right where you are.
