QUESTION 73:
Why is it that so many professing Christians are not living a victorious life over sin?

ANSWER: A very important question.  It is true that the Christian standard is  no different from that of the world.  They are often bound by the same sinful habits, and live for all that they can get out of the world.

Before people are really born again, they are  salves to sin. Jesus said, “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” John 8:34  The word ‘committeth’ means as continual habits. And the word ‘servant’ means a slave.  He also said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” V.32

To know the truth is found in John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” When you realized that you are a salve to your sins and cannot free yourself, and you believe what Jesus said about the truth setting you free,  then you can trust Him as your Saviour and Lord to be liberated from your slavery to sin.  Listen to what  He says.   If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36  The reason so many professors are bound by sin is,  they either have never been born again or do not know that there is power in the gospel to liberate them from their sins.  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Titus 2:11,12  The word ‘teaching’ here is the thought of training us. Grace also enables us. We are saved by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8)  We lived by grace through faith. (Rom. 5:1,2)  If you can trust the Lord to forgive you of all your sins, you can also trust Him to deliver you from them. Gal. 1:4, Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father: It is a dishonour to the Lord and the gospel for a real Christian to be living like an unsaved person.

If you are not saved, and die in your sins then it is judgment and hell for you. Why not be wise and repent of your sins and turn to the Saviour that loved and died for you?   For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 1 Peter 3:18
