Trower's Tunings

Album Tuning Examples
  • Twice Removed
  • A 440 I Can't Wait Much Longer is in E, Daydream is in C#.
  • Bridge Of Sighs
  • A 440 Bridge Of Sighs and Little Bit Of Sympathy are in E, Lady Love and Day Of The Eagle are in C#.
  • For Earth Below
  • A Flat The first album in "A Flat" tuning. Gonna Be More Suspicious is played in the E positioning, Shame The Devil is played in B.
  • Live!
  • A Flat All the numbers from Twice Removed and Bridge Of Sighs are played a half step flat due to the "A Flat" tuning.
  • Long Misty Days
  • A Flat Long Misty Days and S.M.O.are in E, Messin' The Blues is in the B positioning.
  • In City Dreams
  • A Flat Somebody Calling and Bluebird are in the E positioning.
  • Caravan To Midnight
  • A Flat Caravan To Midnight is in B and I'm Out To Get You is in E.
  • Victims Of The Fury
  • A Flat Jack And Jill is in D with RT's low E string tuned down to a D and Victims Of The Fury is in C# (hammering off the high E and B strings in the verse).
  • B.L.T. stuff
  • A Flat As far as I've checked out--No Island Lost is in D (with the lowered E string) and Into Money is in E, all using "A Flat" tuning.
  • Passion
  • Both No Time is in E using "A Flat" tuning, whereas Won't Even Think About You is in B and played in A 440 tuning.
  • Take What You Need
  • Both Take What You Need and I Want You Home are both in E using "A Flat" tuning, whereas Love Won't Wait Forever is in B and uses A 440 tuning.
  • In The Line Of Fire
  • A full step down (but possibly A 440 as well) As far as I can figure, Sea Of Love is in D and Turn The Volume Up is in E and will be in the correct positionings if you're in A 440. But, RT says he tuned a full step down, so that should be the last word.
  • 20th Century Blues
  • A 440 Athough he tunes his low E string to a D for a few songs such as 20th Century Blues and Whisper Up A Storm.
  • Back It Up
  • Beyond The Mist
  •   I only have them on LP, so I wouldn't want to make definitive statements based on the speed of my record player.
