New Trower CD - Someday Blues
|
The new Robin Trower blues album we've all been anticipating, 'Someday Blues', is out! The CD is being released on V-12 Records, the label RT formed with his longtime manager, Derek Sutton ('20th Century Blues' was also issued on V-12). It will be available in stores, directly through the Internet (no word yet on how), and via RT's management's 1-800-668-7420 number.
'Someday Blues' is the album of 'pure blues' RT has been promising himself for years and features RT himself singing! There's three "oldies" and seven originals on the album. According to certain sources, work for the album was done at Trackside Studios, Southend, Essex, England (the same studio where Passion, Take What You Need and In The Line Of Fire were recorded). A remake of Extermination Blues (from '20th Century Blues') is included featuring slide guitar and a version of the classic blues number Crossroads. IMHO, the album is a refreshing departure in both sound and substance. It's clean, precise, tasty and of course, very bluesy! As stated above, RT does all the singing, and he comes off incredibly well. Most, if not all, of his fans will be very extremely surprised at the quality of Trower's voice. I'm loathe to compare the master to anyone, but if you want a ballpark idea of what 'Someday Blues' sounds like, picture the "cleaness" of Stevie Ray mixed in with the soulful vocalization of Clapton -- but with the powerful and unique essence of Trower's style coarsing throughout. Very impressive and emminently listenable! As far as availability on the Internet goes, CDNOW has it for $14.37 U.S, and ABCDs has it for $13.55 U.S. Sorry I don't have any cover artwork posted yet (my only copy is a promotional jobbie with no cover), but feel free to peruse an exclusive album review of 'Someday Blues' by rock critic Bud Scoppa or check out the Promotional Bio that's being distributed with the album. Many thanks to DS for these gems! |
