SALVATION QUESTION 63

QUESTION 63
If being born again means a spiritual birth from above, what does "regeneration" means?

ANSWER:
The word is only used twice in the Bible, Titus 3:5 and Matthew 19:28. It means basically the same thing as being born again.

Strong's Concordance gives the meaning as: "new birth, reproduction, renewal, recreation." "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost." Titus 3:5. In this verse it is use of people who are saved. It distinctly says that they are saved, not by their works, but by being regenerated by the Holy Spirit. This all being the benefits of his mercy toward mankind. You will note, that it is said to be a "washing," here again it is not water baptism, but the value of the shed blood of Christ that cleanses us from sin. "Unto him that loved us, and WASHED us from our sins in his own blood." Revelation 1:5. "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the WASHING of water by the word." Ephesians 5:26. This is what is meant in John 3:5, "...born of water..." Jesus said "except a man be born again he cannot see or enter the kingdom of God..." John 3:3-5.

How important that readers believe the word of God and repent of there sins and trust Christ and be born again. No birth, no life; No life, no heaven. What about you? "Today if you will hear His voice harden not your hearts." Hebrews 3:15.
