SALVATION QUESTION 204

QUESTION 204
Does spending eternity in heaven or hell have to remain uncertain until it's too late?

ANSWER:
Answer: The majority of people are not sure of heaven, because they are trying and hoping to get there. In contacting many people about this all important subject I have found that most of them believe they are going to heaven, but they are not certain. The following are people who are not going to heaven:

1. Those who are depending on themselves. That is, their good living. The Bible is clear that it is “...not of works lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:9 Again, “ Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” Titus 3:5.

2. Those who are depending on their trying to be good. Doing good is all right, but it will not help you to get to heaven. It cannot take away your sins. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:12. We might do what we call some good deed, but God tries the motive behind that deed. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins,...” Jeremiah 17:9-10.

To be sure of heaven you must cease trying and doing and repent of your sins. That is, acknowledging your sins before God and then trusting completely in the sacrifice the Lord Jesus Christ made at Calvary for those sins.

You need two things to get to heaven. Forgiveness for all your sins and the gift of eternal life. Once you repent of your sins and believe (trust) in Christ you can be sure that heaven is your home.

Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all thing Acts 13:38-39a.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31.

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. John 20:31.

God says it, you believe it and that will settle it for you for ever. Do it and be saved.
