SALVATION QUESTION 156

QUESTION 156
Just what is the Gospel? Some say it is the "good news" of the coming kingdom other: say it is the "whole Bible." Just what is the true "gospel?

ANSWER:
As you probably know the work "gospel" means "good news. This not be true of the "whole Bible" as there is much bad news in the Bible. Hebrews 9:27 says, And as it is appointed unto men once to die, after this the judgment. Now that is not "good news". The coming kingdom is "good news"; but again it is only to those who are saved. Jesus said in connection with that coming kingdom in Matthew 25:46 "These shall go away into everlasting punishment". It is not "good news" for the unsaved. Since the word means good news we must understand that it is for all mankind. In Galatians 1:8-9 we are told that there is just "one gospel" and even if an angel from heaven preached any other gospel let him be accursed (damned forever). We are further told that this "good news" is hid from the lost. 2 Corinthians 4:3.

The Bible leaves no doubt as to the clarity of what the "gospel" really is. 1 Corinthians 15:1 "Moreover brethren I declare unto you THE GOSPEL", 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. How that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and was buried, and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Language could not be plainer and description clearer than here. When one thinks of our "sins" before an holy God, and how He cannot look upon sin and sinners favourable; further understanding that there is an awful place called hell, how wonderful is the "good news" of His death for our sins and His glorious resurrection again from among the dead.

To all those that trust Him completely they enter into the value of this "gospel" which is "the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth." Romans 1:16.
