SALVATION QUESTION 131

QUESTION 131
Why are there so many professions of faith, that never seem to be real in the lives of the professors?

ANSWER:
The reason seems to be obvious. There is no genuine repentance in the lives of many of these people. They make a formal profession of faith, that is not born out of a deep conviction of their sin and need.  Many say a little prayer, sign a decision card or go up to the front of a Church and feel that is it. Salvation is not in a profession but in possessing Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Salvation in the Bible is based on true repentance of sin and genuine trust in the finished work of Christ to put away those sins. The New Testament opens with John the Baptist crying out, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:2. Jesus commissioned His disciples to preach "...that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name..." Luke 24:47. Jesus said of the Pharisees, "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin." John 15:22.

In Matthew 23 Jesus proclaimed eight "woes" against the religious leaders of that day. Where do you hear THAT kind of preaching today? there must be a balance of preaching, in the gospels. Sin and salvation. The love of God and the wrath of God. Heaven and hell. Repentance and faith.

The depths of reality about these things will produce processors who have reality to them.

Dear Reader, have you repented of your sins yet? Have you trusted Christ yet? This is the God's order in this all important matter of your eternal destiny. It is hell without repentance and Christ, but it is heaven with repentance and faith in Christ. Which is your choice?
