QUESTION 58:
We live in a changing world. What about the historical valves of marriage and homes of today?

ANSWER:
When God created man He started with a marriage and a home. The Bible ends with another type of marriage in Revelation 21 and a home, where the church is seen as the bride of Christ.

The foundation that civilation was to be built on was the family. Every fallen empire of the past all had their beginning with broken marriages and homes. In the society of today one would wonder what will happen in another generation. Broken marriages and homes and youths that are running rampant. Parents both working with the day care and T.V. baby sitting the children.

Before sin ever entered the human race God instituted marriage. Genesis 2:24, Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. This sets the pattern for suceeding generations. You will notice two important words in this verse.

The first is “leave” parents. It is important that when a young couples decide that they marry they are to leave their parents. This does not mean in a dishonorable way, but it means that they are no longer under the supervision of their parents. The Bible says, “. . . threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12 God should be central in every marriage. Parents should not interfere with a marriage and should give advice only when asked for. Young couples should not run to mom or dad with their problems. Work them out with the Lord.

The second word is “cleave” to a wife. When two people take vows before the Lord they should determine that they are going to stick to one another through thick and thin times. This attitude will carry them through many trials.

Marriage is used as a metaphor for salvation. Once two people take vows before God and wholehearted receive one another, that is marriage. When a sinner and a Saviour received one another that is salvation. The Saviour has already said His “I will.” All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. John 6:37 He is waiting for you. Since He only receives sinners, you must repent and trust Him completely to save you from your sins.
