FALSE DOCTRINE QUESTION 2

QUESTION 2:
If we do not have to pattern our lives after the fourth commandment to "Remember the Sabbath," then can you tell me why we have to keep the seventh "Thou shalt not commit adultery?"

ANSWER:
The Christian does not pattern himself or herself after any law, as that would be obtaining righteousness by law and not by grace.

Such would be to do this: "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." Galatians 2:21. "In vain" literally means to make void or useless; thus He would have died for nothing. The Galatians were doing this and Paul told them they "are fallen from grace." (Read Galatians 3:1-5). In Galatians 3:10, Paul reminds them "that as many as are under the law are under the curse." He calls such a manner of living, a return to the "weak and beggarly element" (Galatians 4:9). The next verse says: "Ye observe DAYS, and months, and times and years. I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain." Galatians 4:10-11.

Paul raised this question: "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid, How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" Romans 6:1-2. If we are not under law, let us sin? Paul wrote to them in order for them to overcome sin by reckoning themselves to have died with Christ and risen with Him, (Romans 6:11). He tells them the three dominions (authority), the law: Romans 7:1; death: Romans 6:9; and sin: Romans 6:14 have been broken by the death of Christ, thus we are not under them any longer.

The Sabbath was given before the law, Exodus 16:29. It was a sign of Israel's rest from their Egyptian bondage, Deuteronomy 5:15. It has no connection with Christianity at all. The grace of God teaches a Christian that they should not commit adultery. Titus 2:11-12. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Romans 10:4.

Salvation is all of grace, Ephesians 2:8-9. Are you saved?
