DOCTRINE QUESTION 27

QUESTION 27:
There is much confusion about what is the right Church. What is a New Testament Church?

ANSWER:
This is a perplexing problem to many, because there are nearly sixteen hundred different Protestant Churches in North America.

This is not a good testimony for Christ. This is a big hindrance to the man on the street. When John Wesley was asked this question, he quoted Matthew. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Matthew 18:20. I could not give you a better answer. The church of the New Testament was not an institution or organization in society, but a living organism, that spread the gospel to the world. This concept was of a family where love prevailed. There is only one church. (Ephesians 4:4). "There is one body," which Christ is the Head of. (Ephesians 1:22). This body of people consists of all born-again believers. There are no unsaved in it, and there are no saved outside of it. Every local group of believers who are gathered together in the Name of the Lord and acknowledge Him as the head, are a replica of that body. They will seek to represent the whole by owning Him as Head, and calling themselves by His name only. This name is: "Christian". (Acts 11:26; 1 Peter 4:16). This is the name which is common to all in the Body. It is the only title used in the New Testament of God's people. It unites, whereas denominational names divide. (1 Corinthians 1:12-13). He is the true gathering center; His name is common to all. "Do not they blaspheme that worthy Name by which you are called?" James 2:7.

Are you in that Body? Have you been born-again? Receiving Christ as Saviour from sin is the only way - John. 1:12-13
