Tarion Awards of Excellence Finalists Announced 11,000 Home Buyers Determine Builder Award Recipients (Toronto, ON, August 28, 2007)

Tarion Warranty Corporation (‘Tarion’) today announced the finalists for the 2007 Tarion Awards of Excellence which recognize residential home builders for their commitment to customer service.

“Each of the Tarion Awards of Excellence finalists has achieved best in class after-sales service, as determined by one of the largest home buyer surveys conducted in Canada,” said Greg Gee, President and CEO of Tarion Warranty Corporation. “The Tarion Awards of Excellence are the only awards in Ontario that focus exclusively on a builder’s after-sales service performance. The awards program that is now in its seventeenth year, takes on an even greater significance for 2007 as the finalists were determined based exclusively on the opinions of more than 11,000 new home buyers”.

Recipients of the 2007 Tarion Awards of Excellence were identified based on the results of a survey conducted by Decima Research with 53,000 Ontario consumers who took possession of a new home between January 1 and December 31, 2006. In this role, Tarion licenses all new home and condominium builders pursuant to provincial legislation. This statute requires home builders to provide purchasers with warranty coverage that is guaranteed by Tarion. The Corporation also establishes minimum time standards for after-sales service, and adjudicates warranty coverage issues between homeowners and builders. Over 1.45 million homes in Ontario have been protected under warranty by Tarion.

Savvy homeowners chose Cedarstone Homes, March 2006

In 1989, Kim Pijselman founded Cedarstone Homes, building wonderful homes that gave their owners features they wanted in a custom design without exorbitant costs. In the past 16 years, Cedarstone Homes has concentrated primarily on building in and around the village of Richmond, where you will find Cedarstone’s two subdivisions of King’s Grant Gardens and Richmond Oaks. Both of these sites offer larger lots where you’ll find a wonderful mix of bungalows, single-family homes and fully custom designs – all architecturally designed for wonderful curb appeal.

One of this builder’s greatest strengths is that the company can do almost anything you want. In fact, a large part of the business is custom building. The final home designs are developed based on the needs, interests and ideas of the homeowner. Cedarstone Homes does offer some stock plans, but mostly, homebuyers are delighted to discover they have such freedom in the design that inevitably, the final plan becomes customized for them. Some homes in the subdivisions are fully customized, a fact which not only solidifies the investment value of all the homes, but really creates a sense of exclusivity.

Even throughout the construction process, Cedarstone Homes will do their best to accommodate changes. If the changes are made at the right time, in some cases, there may be little or no cost associated with them. In all instances, the builder works very closely with each homebuyer to ensure that all options are fully understood and there are no surprises.

Cedarstone Homes makes it easy to build the home of your dreams and move into it quickly – you don’t have to wait.

You can choose from inventory homes, which are already built and include many of the standard features offered by Cedarstone Homes. Eaves troughs, air conditioning, alarm systems and garage door openers are all included in the inventory homes. These homes reflect the quality of today’s construction technology, products and finishes, as well as the most popular design features and details. Cedarstone always uses high-quality heating/ventilation systems, insulation systems and window systems. The plumbing consists only of copper pipe throughout the home. Flooring is typically of natural products, as less vinyl and carpeting are being requested by home buyers. Quality hardwoods are used, including 3/4 inch select oak, birch or maple. Instead of using pre-finished material, the flooring is primarily finished on- site for a rich-looking result.

Buyers also notice the quality fixtures throughout and the wonderful use of large windows all around the house, not just at the front of the home. Kitchens shine with granite, stone and natural, solid-surface countertops. Instead of PVC products, cabinetry is also natural wood: rich maple, birch and cherry finished in natural stains.

If you are looking for a single-family home, consider Cedarstone’s six different two-storey plans, including loft designs. The Balmoral model home design won the 1996 OCHBA AWARD for Best Single Family Home Design and it is currently available in Richmond Oaks.

If you prefer a bungalow design, don’t wait. Cedarstone Homes offers six different bungalow plans, and the lot sizes are amazing. The minimum is about 65 by 110 ft. deep. Some larger ones are also available.

You’ll enjoy working with in-house design services and the long-time trades people of Cedarstone Homes. You can include all the wonderful features you have dreamed of: soaring spaces or more formal floor plans, special sanctuary areas in your home, a lavish ensuite spa retreat, an amazing home entertainment system, or a fabulous games area.

The builder’s strong team approach makes all the difference, particularly with the experienced homebuyer who chooses Cedarstone. For the last two years, Cedarstone Homes has been one of the five per cent of all builders nominated for the Tarion "Excellence in Customer Service" award. Through strong referrals and word of mouth, it is very common for family members and friends to become new homebuyers. As extra assurance, this is one builder that has never missed a closing date in all its years in business. For more information, call Kim Pijselman at 613-838-4663 or check out the website at www.cedarstonehomes.com. You can also visit the model home located in the Richmond Oaks community. It is open from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends or by appointment.

Enbridge Gas Ready Program August 2001

Close-knit Gas Ready Communities Enjoy A Slower Pace of Life

The Township of Goulbourn, situated in the southwest corner of the Ottawa-Carleton Region, has been in existence since the early 1800's and today offers a varied landscape and population. A desirable location in which to live and work, this amalgamated township is home to such urban centres as Stittsville and Richmond. While offering a choice of small town or rural living, the city amenities of Ottawa, the Capital of Canada, are only twenty minutes away. Currently developing two Gas Ready communities, Granite Ridge in Stittsville and Richmond Oaks in Richmond, is semi-custom builder Cedarstone Homes.

Bursting with built-in advantages, the Gas Ready program ensures that these homes are outfitted with properly sized gas supply lines that will accommodate future upgrades in natural gas appliances and services quickly, easily and cost-effectively. Proud to be setting a new standard in energy efficiency, this program ensures the comfort, convenience and enjoyment inherent in the many benefits of gas living. Whether for today or for down the road, new home buyers appreciate the choices a Gas Ready builder makes possible.

Award-winning Cedarstone Homes builds quality Gas Ready residences either from one of their carefully thought out plans or from a plan brought to them by a potential client. From their family to yours, Cedarstone Homes proudly stands behind their pledge of personalized service and care to build the best residences possible.

"Our proven designs combine traditional elegance with modern needs of today's new home buyer. The floor plans are highly functional and are thoughtfully designed to maximize comfort and convenience without compromising style. We made an important decision a long time ago to only use the finest tradesmen and construction materials available. And as a result, all of our models are equipped with spacious modern kitchens, plush wall-to-wall carpeting, oak railings, cozy fireplaces, double car garages and oversized master bedrooms with ensuite baths. Forced air high-efficiency gas furnace and a gas fired hot water tank (rental) are standards. We've never sacrificed quality in order to offer competitive prices," explains Kim Pijselman, Owner, Cedarstone Homes.

"Our Granite Ridge community enjoys a village atmosphere where people care about their homes and their neighbours. These larger lots are closer to the must-have amenities without having to have a plaza sitting in the backyard. Over in the semi-rural area of Richmond Oaks, seniors and move-up buyers seem to be choosing the bungalows also on larger lots."

Overall, development in Goulbourn has taken place at a comfortable pace that's been good for residents and for the Township, which has been able to meet the demand for increased services. This growth has been carefully planned to be in harmony with the existing environment.

Through the Gas Ready program, a co-operative venture between certain high-quality new home builders in Ontario and Enbridge Consumers Gas, Cedarstone Homes is able to offer their homebuyers the increased value that results from using cost-effective, clean burning natural gas. "I've been involved with this program since its inception. If I were to suggest an improvement to an already good thing, getting a bit of credit for the gas piping would be it. This first-rate initiative is starting to become known by buyers - must be from the good marketing support that comes with it," observes Pijselman.

Enbridge Consumers Gas, Ontario's leading energy supplier, is the country's largest natural gas distributor, serving approximately 1.5 million customers in central and eastern Ontario. Cedarstone Homes is just one of the over 110 innovative and quality committed Gas Ready builders throughout Ontario.

Builders raise $1,790 for Hospice at May Court

Ottawa builders momentarily put aside site plans earlier this month and asked staff to pick up glue guns and craft four wreaths for an auction to raise money for the Hospice at May Court.

Crafty types from Minto, Phoenix, a Cedarstone homeowner and the head crafter at Michaels Arts and Crafts Super Store at Pinecrest Shopping Centre curled pine shavings, twisted pine boughs and made shimmering glass balls for the second annual wreath auction at the December meeting of 260 members of the Ottawa-Carleton Home Builders' Association.

In about 30 minutes, auctioneer for the night, Citizen columnist Dave Brown and his main helper, John Montpetit, sales and marketing manager for Phoenix Homes, brought in $1,790 toward the renovation project of a 10-bed wing at the Hospice at May Court on Cameron Avenue in Ottawa South.

"It made sense for us to put the money to the renovations because it is found money," says Megan Doyle, director of development for the hospice. The night's financial outcome was a thrill for Ms. Doyle. "It's great. It's completely unexpected." The 10-bed hospice, which will give end-of-life care for men and women who don't want to stay in hospital and can't stay at home, officially opens Jan. 22. The $176,000 renovation is still $20,000 short of its goal and there are also plans to turn a summer room into a year-round sunroom, says Cedarstone sales representative and key auction organizer Paddy Richer.

This is the second year for the auction. Last year, there were nine wreaths and ornaments and builders raised $1,600 for the Shepherds of Good Hope. "It's important to give back to the community," says Ms. Richer. "It makes us all stronger."

Cedarstone president Kim Pijselman asked Richmond homeowner Judy Barbaro to use her skills for the auction and she quickly said yes. "I do crafts because it's fun and relaxing," says Ms. Barbaro, who sold an urban townhome to buy a large piece of land and live in a single home in the small Ottawa Valley town last June. "I put in birds and bird houses because there are a lot of birds here in Richmond," says Ms. Barbaro, who works in the photo and floral sections of Loblaws. Ms. Barbaro's wreath raised $250 for the hospice.
