2001 turned out to be a busy year.   I was away from home for months due to new work assignments.

The most recent assignment was in Tokyo. The office is very different from anything I have seen before. There were about 20 long tables, seating 14 people each. There was no partition or cubicle. The two team leaders sat at the end of two tables in the middle of the room. So they could see EVERYTHING that was going on at any time. Local people got desktop PC's with flat panel displays. We overseas consultants had to bring our own notebook. This and the fixed tables meant poor ergonomics. We worked from 9am till 7 pm, but we were the first to leave work everyday.

We tried fugu(blowfish). Notice the business card on the left. The character for "FU" in fugu is styled like a fugu fish.

Mmmmm! Fugu

After the assignment was up, I visited the Mt. Fuji area (Yamanakako - "Lake in the middle of the mountain"), Kyoto and Nara.

At the Mt. Fuji area lake , there are huge koi (colourful Japanese carp) in the water. On the beach, elevator music comes out of the loudspeakers to enhance the tranquillity, perhaps.
