In 2000, after taking care of the Y2K bug, it's time to TRAVEL.
First destination - Italy, again. First stop was Milan. It is a much more pleasant place compared to Rome. There are wider streets, bigger stores. There are also more sub-machine gun toting carabinieri officers patrolling on the streets. These are law enforcement officers similar to the RCMP or FBI, as opposed to the local police. They investigate major crimes and are associated with the military, rather than being a civilian force. They wear this very stylish overcoat in winter. They are also the subject of the country's many "light bulb" jokes.
However, the purpose for this trip was to attend the Venice Carnival. For 2 weeks, locals
and visitors(mostly) dress up in costume and wander all over.

Later that summer, I went to the California
coast, then flew to Vancouver and travelled on the Trans Canada Highway to Banff.
