FAQ About Armenian Fonts

Q1 - When I am using an Adobe type Armenian Font named "Maral". Each time, if I am at the end of the line and the last word contains the letter "RRAA" I am getting an automatic line break?

A1 - The reason is, that the Armenian letter "RRAA" in "Maral" is located where the Hyphen is on the "English keyboard", and the processor acts accordingly
Probably it was prepared in France or for a French keyboard, where the Hyphen is located where the numeral "6" is ( English keyboard).
The only solution was to switch the location of the letter "RRAA" with the Hyphen, which coast money to do it. (I charged US $5.00 to reconfigure the keyboard).
NB. It was brought to my attention that not all "Maral" typefaces has the above mentioned problem.

A2 - The letter "Pure" in those Fonts is located where the quotation marks are. The problem started when Microsoft introduced Word6 for Windows, other word processors has no problem. In Word6 the straight quotations used in Word3.1 was replaced by two different "fancy" quotation marks, one for the beginning of the sentence and a different one for the end (They call them the 66 and the 99).
Here is one of the solutions:
1 - Start MS Word6 for Windows.
2 - Select Tools.
c - Choose Options from the drop down menu..
3 - Click on the AutoFormat.
4 - Make sure under Replace, Straight Quotes with "Smart Quotes" is not selected.
5 - Click O.K.
The other solution is again the reconfiguration of the keyboard, so there will be no problem whatever kind of quotation marks you are using.

New, New, New!!!!! .........For Microsoft Office or Word97 Users.
Having the same above mentioned problem.
a - Start Word97
b - Select Format
c - Choose Auto Format from the drop down menu.
d - Select Options from the menu.
e - Select "Auto Format As You Type" from the top of the pan.
f - Make sure the "Straight quotes" with "Smart quotes" is not selected.
g - Click O.K. and again Click O.K. and it's done.

Q3 - Why when I switched to MS Word7,each time I type a single lower case, Armenian letter "i" (Armenian eeh) it is automatically converted to upper case "I" (Armenian EEH)?

A3- This is a normal transition for English writing.
Here is the solution:
a - Open MS Word7 or higher.
b - On the Menu choose Tools
b - In the Tools drop down menu choose Auto Correct
c - In the middle of the Auto Correct window you'll see two small windows next to each other, one says "Replace" the other "With".
d - Type the small letter "i" in the "Replace" window.
e - You'll notice that, in the "List" under the two windows, that the "i" is replaced by an "I".
e - Type the small letter "i" in the" With" window and click O.K.

NB. Remember when you type an English correspondence you have to change the "i" with "I".

Q4 - When you type an Armenian text in MS Word using one of the English/Armenian keyboard drivers, any one, and you try to past the text in QuarkXPress or in Adobe Illustrator, all the Armenian letters (yetch) is replaced by (") sign, and the letter (Capital Kim) completely disappears

A4 - The question is correct, but I have no answer for it yet. Try to print the text in QuarkXPress or in Adobe Illustrator, using any Arm/Eng. keyboard driver, they work fine there.

Q5. - I send through email to my friend a Flyer design in Adobe Illustrator 8.0 written in English, using Times Roman Fonts, for his approval after converting it to a "pdf" file, he told me that, all the letters "&" in the flyer is replaced by the Armenian letter "YEV"

A5 - I tried it myself and what you are saying is correct. I suspect it happens only for people who has Armenian/English Fonts with keyboard driver in there Windows. But I can't explain why is happening, because everybody has Times Roman Fonts. If someone out there knows the answer please send a note to me. Usually when a file is converted to .PDF and Emailed, the receiving person should have the same Fonts used in your text, otherwise he can get replacement or garbage.

Q6 - I tried to remove an Armenian/English keyboard driver from my system and my computer crashed. The Diver name was " KdWin"

A6 - The best way to remove programs is to uninstall them otherwise you can remove things that are essential for Windows normal functioning.
