IDUG Technical Symposium *

Monday Oct. 20 - Tuesday Oct. 21, 1997

Royal York Hotel, Toronto

The International DB2 Users Group presents its inaugural Technical Symposium for database professionals. The symposium features an impressive choice of educational seminars, led by the industry's foremost experts on the most relevant database topics.
Our keynote speaker Janet Perna, General Manager, Database Management, IBM Software Solutions Division, will educate and motivate!

Technical Sessions

As technical professionals, we are faced with an unprecedented rate of change and progress in technology solutions. We need some straight answers about the direction and implementation of DB2 in this new world. We can no longer afford to hear only the issues and potential problems.
We need solutions and answers to get the job done!

We've heard all the high level overviews of N-way Data Sharing and the complexities we must consider. What about some step by step guidance in sizing coupling facility structures? W here do we begin?

What about real DB2 performance and tuning? Multiple bufferpool tuning is great, but what's involved in managing them? Real examples would help!

Advanced SQL tuning tips are great, but what can we bring back to work to prove its value?

Is a detailed understanding of of the DB2 Optimizer and EXPLAIN really necessary in today's environment? What happens in tomorrow's environment with parallel and SYSPLEX-wide queries? How will we be able to interpret DB2's actions then? Show us some real problems and the fixes for them. What impact will this have on Data Warehousing with DB2? How can DB2 compete with 64-bit Client Server platforms? Who are we kidding?

Consider Web Enablement and DB2 Universal Database for a moment. Once a dream, now a reality. What do we need to do? Where do we start? How will we manage availability and performance then?

Without some serious answers to these questions, we believe there are significant roadblocks for many DB2 users in their progress towards full exploitation of DB2's latest features.

This Symposium will provide the answers.

Watch for our detailed brochure, and please watch this space for further details.
