SALVATION QUESTION 97

QUESTION 97
Which came first, "light or life?"

ANSWER:
There is no doubt that light came before life. We have this principle in Genesis 1:3. A sinner being dead to God needs life, but death to God means separation in the darkness of sin. Paul was called to be the apostle to the Gentiles, his message to them was: "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light,..." Acts 26:18.

Jesus put it this way, "While ye have LIGHT, believe in the LIGHT, that ye may be the children of LIGHT." John 12:36.

It is said of Satan; "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 2 Corinthians 4:4. It is the "light," which the devil keeps people from, so they may not understand.

Jesus is the true light ".....which lighteth every man that cometh into the world." John 1:9. Again, "I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness." John 12:46.

David said, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." Psalm 119:130. Light is understanding, and this is what the sinner needs. They need to understand they are sinners, lost, helpless, and hopeless. They need to know that Jesus loved them and died for them.
