SALVATION QUESTION 91

QUESTION 91
There are so many different opinions that I am perplexed. Who am I supposed to believe?

ANSWER:
A very good and important question. I am glad you said "who" and not "what" to believe.

When it comes to the great issues of eternity it is important to hear what God has to say. "Let God be true and every man a liar..." Romans 3:4. We have the question asked: "...Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" Acts 16:30. This is only asked once in the Bible, it is a very simple and important question. The answer is likewise important and simple, "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16:31. You will note the Person we are to believe on, "..the Lord Jesus Christ." This is His exalted title as the One who has conquered sin, death, and Satan, and is now sitting on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

The word "believe" means to rely, depend on. It means you are not trusting anyone or anything else. It is trusting Him 100%. The little preposition "on" means "an action toward the object" which means, as a sinner, by an act of your will, you put all of your trust in Christ, as your Saviour and Lord. You trust Him with all your heart. (See Romans 10:10 and Acts 8:37). This will take place in a moment of time when you realize you are a sinner, and that you are lost to God. You must trust the Lord Jesus Christ, as your Saviour and Lord. God then says, "...thou shalt be saved." No doubt about it, if you do the trusting, He will do the saving.

How about you, dear reader? Are you saved? Have you trusted Christ with all your heart? Don't confuse this with saying a prayer or giving your heart to the Lord. There is no substitute for being saved, it must be trusting Christ fully, 100%.
