SALVATION QUESTION 82

QUESTION 82
It is very difficult to be a Christian. "Will God hold me accountable if I can't?

ANSWER:
You are mistaken about it being difficult to become a Christian. God will hold you accountable for not becoming a Christian. The one sin that will put you into hell is failing to trust Christ as your Saviour. "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18. Christians are born and not made. (John 3:7). You do not become a Christian by living like one. Many believe they must live it to get it. This is a "...way that seemeth right...," but ends in death. (Proverbs 14:12).

The provision was made at the Cross to put away our sins. "It is finished." John 19:30. To become a Christian you MUST "repent" and "believe ," (trust Christ) to be saved. Paul's message to us all is, "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ." Acts 20:21. Jesus said, "Repent and believe the gospel." Mark 1:15.

The jailer was told, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31. You must do the believing and God does the saving. Living a Christian life is not hard. First you have to have it, in order to live it. When you trust the Saviour, He comes in by the Spirit and He lives His life in you. (Galatians 2:20). It is not one bit of your fleshy effort at all. It is all by grace alone; but you must open the door to Him by repenting of your sins, and trusting Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Now, when you do become born again, you will be a transformed person. Many of the old things will pass away and new things will come in. You will not find it difficult if the Lord is in you working out your life for you.
