SALVATION QUESTION 6

QUESTION 6
If I ask God to forgive my sins each day and try to live a good life will I not be saved?

ANSWER:
The natural man understandeth not the things of the Spirit of God..."- 1 Corinthians 2:14. "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death"- Proverbs 14:12. It most certainly appears to the natural mind to be the right way, but God says, "My ways are not your ways and my thoughts are not your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8. This is a matter of your eternal destiny, so you ought accept God's way then you will be sure you are in the right way. Your good living will not take away past sins. God requires that which is past, Ecclesiastes 3:15.

The wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23. These must be paid in full before God can forgive. This provision was made by Jesus Christ at the place called Calvary. He shed His blood and died to provide forgiveness for us. We must come to Him with our sins and depend on His sacrifice alone to saves us. The Bible says,"...without the shedding of blood there is no remission (forgiveness)- Hebrews 9:22. God cannot forgive because you ask. He only forgives through our depending on the only sacrifice that takes away sin. He is said to be "...the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world." - John 1:29 and this only when we trust Him alone. "...He appeared once in the end of the world to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Hebrews 9:26.

It took the Son of God to become the Son of man in order to deal with the sin question. It was not just as easy as saying my prayers at night and confessing my sins. They had to be put out of God's holy sight. This is what the Saviour accomplished when He cried "It is finished" - John 19:30.

The question implies that you are trusting in your confessing and good living and not on Christ and His atoning blood. This will not save. You must come to Him as a sinner, hopeless, helpless and unworthy and cast yourself upon the mercy of God where it can only be found at the cross of Christ. Do trust Him, be saved today.
