If Jesus died for our sins why do we need to have a judgment day? How do we know Jesus didn't die to absolve the sins of the people of and before his time?

ANSWER:
There are two questions here in one. All we know about Jesus is God's record of Him in the Bible. It is very clear that He died for our sins. 1 Corinthians 15:3, Romans 5:6 and Romans 5:8, and many other verses confirm this.

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29. "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" 1 Peter 3:18.

This is God's provision for our salvation. However, it is of no value unless you come to Him as a lost guilty sinner and trust what He has done for you. It is like the soap, that a manufacturer has made. It has cleansing value, but only when you use it. Jesus is set forth in the scriptures as both Saviour and Judge of all men.

Trust Him NOW as your Saviour. "And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:30-31. Or, meet Him later as Judge! "Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead" Acts 17:31. "And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead." Acts 10:42.

If He is your Saviour now, you will never meet Him as Judge. If you never trust Him now, you are bound to meet Him later, as Judge. You have the choice now, you will not have that choice when facing Him as Judge. It is great to know Him as your personal Saviour. This is not religion, it is a personal relationship with a Person who loves us, and who died for our sins. God can do no more, He waits patiently for man to repent and trust in His Son. (2 Peter 3:9).
