SALVATION QUESTION 27
QUESTION 27
ANSWER:
Are we supposed to believe that the man known as Jesus Christ is the Son of God for salvation? What does the Bible mean by "...believeth on the Son...?"
That Jesus Christ is the "Son of the living God," (Matthew 16:16) is the great confession of salvation. There is positively no salvation apart from believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
John 3:18, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 20:31, But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name.
Acts 8:37, And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
1 John 5:5, Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:10-13, "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."
To "believe" means to trust with all your heart. You can't trust the Son of God for salvation and anything else. It is all Christ, or Christ not at all.
