SALVATION QUESTION 198

QUESTION 198
Salvation sounds easy, so why is it so difficult for people to get it?

ANSWER:
The problem with people isn’t that it is hard, but that they have little sense of their need of it.

The first step is salvation is a realization of being lost. The majority of people do not believe that they are lost. Most will say they have some hope of heaven when they die. It is that hope that hinders them from being saved. This is why the first step in salvation is repentance. Repentance is a mind after God in believing that all have sinned and cannot go to heaven. It is facing the fact that you are lost. You cannot trust Christ to saved you when you are not convinced that you are lost.

Jesus said, “I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.” John 8:21 Here He is ready to die and be raised again and go back to heaven. He says to the people that if they die in their sins they cannot go to heaven. Revelation 21:27 says, “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” This verse says nothing that defiles heaven will ever enter in. Why do you hope that God will make an exception and take you in? You will notice that in the verse there is an exception. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life can enter. This means that when a sinner repents and faces the fact of being lost they can then trust in the Lord Jesus Christ who shed His blood for their sins. The Bible says, “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” Hebrews 9:22 The inhabitants of heaven will sing a new song, “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” Revelation 5:9.

Have you repented? Are your trust Christ only? Are you washed in the blood. God has made the provision, have you accepted it as the payment for your sins?
