SALVATION QUESTION 130

QUESTION 130
I would like to be a Christian, but I could never live that kind of a life. Is there any use in me trying?

ANSWER:
The answer to your question is very definite. There is absolutely no use in you trying. It is impossible to become a Christian by trying. Trying is doing and not trusting. When you are trying you are not trusting. It is trusting Christ 100% that saves. Once you come to understand your need of salvation then it is easy to trust Christ.

Regarding living the life, you cannot live it until you get it. Once you trust Christ as Saviour and Lord you have a new life living in you. Things you used to do, you do not want to do them any more. Things you could not do before, you can now do. You couldn't live a human life until you were born. When you are born again you receive new life. It is not a rebirth of the old human life, but it is spiritual life. "You hath He quickened (made alive) who were dead in trespasses and sins:..." Ephesians 2:1. This is why Jesus said, "Ye must be born again." John 3:7. This birth is not only spiritual and makes you alive to God, but it is moral also. "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." 1 Peter 1:23. This means the word of God works in your life. Jesus said of His people, "Ye are clean through the word that I have spoken." John 13:3. Again, "That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word," Ephesians 5:26. Now we should understand, when you are born again you now have a life within you to live it out to the glory of God.

This comes about, not by trying, but trusting Christ. The life you then live is Christ living in you. Acts 16:31 isn't easy, but total trust. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."
