Can I be deceived in thinking I am saved when I am really not?

ANSWER:
There is no doubt that many are deceived in this way. Modern religious people who attend to their religion probably "think they are saved," but maybe they are not.

Samuel, the prophet, THOUGHT that the each one of the seven sons of Jesse was the Lord's anointed king, but he was wrong. God looks "on the heart, not the head." (1 Samuel 16. The question above would depend on, what you base your claims of salvation on? What makes you think you are saved? Salvation rests on a perfect foundation and it has two pillars.

ONE FOUNDATION: "Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste." Isaiah 28:16.

FIRST PILLAR: The finished work of Christ on the cross. "IT IS FINISHED." John 19:30. The phrase could read, "perfected or completed." Are you resting on this pillar of truth?

SECOND PILLAR: The Word of God. "The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple." Psalms 19:7. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." John 5:24.

This foundation and two pillars never change in our changes. We MUST trust fully and completely in the finished work of Christ dying for your sins, and the truths associated with trusting Him will never give us reason to doubt.
