PROPHECY QUESTION 34

QUESTION 34
In Revelation 19:10 it says at the end of the verse, ''...and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Could you tell me what this means?

ANSWER:
This could have several meanings. It is the testimony of Jesus preached at a time when the prophesies are being fulfilled. The coming of Christ is in the next verse. The battle of Armageddon follows.

The testimony of Jesus is the same as always. It is the Divine record that God gave of His Son. 1 John 5:9-12. It is the same gospel, how He died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day.

Probably the difference would be how it is preached. Today we open the Bible and preach the gospel. In that day there appears to be a famine of the word of God. (Amos 8:11). Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: The prophecy of Joel will be applicable in that day; Joel 2:28-31 "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come."

The spirit of prophecy might mean that there will be prophets that will receive direct revelation and ability to speak the word of God. Luke 21:12-14 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.  And it shall turn to you for a testimony. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer
