QUESTION 16
Was Jesus really resurrected on Sunday looking at Mark 16:9.

ANSWER:
“Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene,...” Mark 16:9. It is very clear from this and other verses that Jesus arose on the first day of the week, being Sunday. It is interesting that there are only two days of the week mentioned in the Bible. They are the first (Sunday) and last day (Saturday) of the week. The first day is mentioned in Genesis 1:5, and the last day of the first week of creation is mention in Genesis 2:1. God took pleasure in all that He created, until Adam sinned and that brought judgment and a curse on all creation and people.

In Matthew 28:1, we read the same, “ In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.” Notice the order here. In Genesis the first day is first, here the Sabbath is first. These two days represent two creations. The Old in Genesis and the New in Matthew 28:1 See also 2 Corinthians 5:17 below.

When we are born, we are born in the Old. That creation is under the curse and condemnation of sin. Adam is the head of the Old. We read in 1 Corinthians 15:22, “ For as in Adam all die,...” That puts us under the condemnation and judgment of death both physical and eternal. To be in the New we must be born again. John 3:7, “Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” That takes us out of the Old into the New. 1 Corinthians 15:22 “...even so in Christ shall all be made alive. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17. I trust you can now see the significance of the first and last days of the week.

Dear reader, Which creation are you in? Have you been born again? Christ died that you might be born again. You don’t need religion to get to heaven, but you do need Christ. You must take your place as a fallen sinner doom to die as such and come to Christ by trusting Him fully to saved you from your sins. Have you done that yet? It is not enough to believe about Christ, you must actually trust Him with all your heart for salvation. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9.
