CHRSITAN LIVING QUESTION 64

QUESTION 64:
Should a Christian exercise their rights to vote?

ANSWER:
It is good that many reading this live in a Country where they have that right, however, we have many other rights, that are wrongs. There is no doubt that American Elections are usually won or lost by the so called Christian vote. It seem that many Evangelicals are more enthused with politics than they are the kingdom of God and the many people who need to be saved.

First let me say we are not citizens of this world Philippians 3:20, For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: The word “conversation” is an old English word that means, a commonwealth of citizens. It means that our citizenship is in heaven.

Next we read, in 2 Corinthians 5:20, Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. This verse says we are “ambassadors” which means we are just pilgrims and strangers to this world. (1 Peter 2:11) In the light of these verses it would not appear that we have a God given right to get involved in voting.

Further, Romans 13:1, Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. This is speaking of civil powers. If two Christians votes for two different candidates then one is voting against God.

Daniel 4:17. This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

The Bible teaches we should pay our taxes and give honour to those that it is due, but the powers to be God alone ordains. (Romans 13:5-7).

Our purpose in the world is to speard the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15. If you are a Christian then let us get at it. If you are not a Christian it is time you repented of your sins and trusted the Saviour for salvation.
