CHRSITAN LIVING QUESTION 59

QUESTION 59:
What is the biblical teaching on singleness, premarital sex, sex in marriage and homosexuality?

ANSWER:
It would be quite difficult to go into details about each of these, but a general answer might be sufficient. There is no doubt that sexuality occupies the mind and lives of more people than anything else. Therefore it is the basic area where most sins are committed. When God created man and woman He gave them sexual desires. We are told that their offsprings should leave their parents and cleave one to the other. Genesis 2:24 - Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. This is the institution of marriage and was given before man fell into sin. It was to be the very structure and character of society. This union is said to be God joining a man and woman together (Matthew 19:6)

The Bible is very clear that any sex outside of marriage is sin. Hebrews 13:4 - Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

The last days prior to the Lord’s coming again will be characterized by four sins. Revelation 9:21 - Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts. The word “fornication” here means, “illicit sexual intercourse, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals etc. Strong’s)

There is no doubt that these four sins are all prevalent in our day. The word “sorceries” is drugs. Most of the world is either on legal or illegal drugs. Thefts, is the gaining of money by fraud.

So any sex outside of marriage is under the judgment of God. This has brought the judgment of God down on nations in the past and will do also in the future. It is sad to meet people who are living immorally and yet say they are saved. God is their Judge, but the Bible says of us that we will know them by their fruit.

What about you? Are you living in sexual sin? If so, God isn’t judging yet, but is calling sinners to repentance and faith in Christ so they can be saved from both His judgment and their sins. He takes no delight in judgment on the sinner, but His delight is in mercy. Micah 7:18 - Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
