QUESTION 23:
Is It right for a Christian to marry a non-Christian? Would this not help the Christian to win their mate to Christ?

ANSWER:
The reasoning of man never works the will of God. What Scripture definitely forbids, we can never improve on. The Bible is clear on the first part of this question, "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers.." 2 Corinthians 6:14.

The application of this to marriage is most fitting. There is no yoke or union more binding on earth than marriage. All through the Old Testament Gods people provoked Him to wrath with this sin, Read Numbers 25, Ezra 10, Nehemiah 13:23, and many other scriptures.

The principle of Romans 3:8, "Shall we do evil, that good may come? Whose damnation is just," and not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) God never blesses. Marrying an unsaved person in order to get them saved seldom works that way. Ninety-nine times out of one hundred it works oppositely. The saved one gets away from the Lord further. In 1 Corinthians 7:39, Paul gives instruction of a saved person living with an unsaved. The cases in question are those that were saved after they were married. They were to remain with the unbeliever and seek to win him to the Lord. In the case of death the other party could remarry but "only in the LORD." The marriage union is used to illustrate salvation. As in marriage two people receives one another with all their hearts. This is the same with salvation. The sinner receives the Saviour and the Saviour receives the sinner. He has already said His I will. "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37.
