Jamie Fraser Books and The Friends of The Merril Collection Present:
The 15th Annual Fantastic Pulps Show and Sale
Saturday, May 14, 2011
10 am to 5 pm
The Fantastic Pulps Show and Sale will once again take place at the Merril Collection of Science Fiction , in the lower level of the Lillian H. Smith Branch of the Toronto Public Library.
The show will again feature a select dealers' room of pulp magazines, pulp related items and reprints, rare and collectable Science Fiction from pre-1975, as well as periodic tours of The Merril Collection.
Parking is limited in the immediate area, and we suggest trying the lot under the Addiction Research Foundation - the entrance is off of Spadina Ave -- watch for the driveway on the right immediately north of College Street.
This is a tremendous oppurtunity for collectors and the curious alike to come and experience the excitement of a piece of bygone popular culture that is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity. The pulp magazines reigned supreme on the newstands from the early part of the 20th century up until their eventual demise in the mid-1950s. There were stories and titles of every kind, from detective to westerns; hero to romance, as well as horror, aviation, war, sports, science fiction, adventure and many more. Named after the cheap pulpwood paper on which they were printed, the pulps enjoyed an era of success for decades as the leading form of reading entertainment for the common people. The stories of many of the most prominent authors of the 20th century were first featured in the pages of the pulps.
Several factors, including the poor lifespan of the paper itself, have made the pulps a disappearing reminder of the not-so-distant past. We invite you to come and join us for the next annual Fantastic Pulps Show and Sale to share in the thrill of these rare and collectable magazines and related items.
