SALVATION QUESTION 68
QUESTION 68
ANSWER:
How can I get faith? I try but it doesn't seem real?
I am not sure what you mean by trying. Faith is something you either have, or you don't. You get it by believing. Once you believe, you have faith. So what you really need to do is to believe. You might ask, "Believe what?"This is how you get faith. It comes through hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17. It is not some gift God gives to some, and not to others. Anyone can get it if they listen to God's Word, and then believe it. The Bible language is: "Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16.
- That you are a sinner, unclean and unfit for heaven. That you are lost to God and that you are unable to do just one thing to put away sin. Absolutely helpless. This is the essence of repentance. It will bring you into a place where you sense a great need for salvation. "...but now commandeth all men every where to repent:.." Acts 17:30
- Believe that Jesus died for your sins. That He bareth your judgment for sins. This means that you trust Him 100% and all that He had done for you. Trusting is not trying. You cannot try to trust. Trusting is ceasing from all efforts and resting entirely on the provision He made for you at the Cross. Do that and you will be saved? "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Acts 16:31.
