Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. What is doing the will of the Father?

ANSWER:
The will of the Father is in contrast to the will of man. Man’s will is to go his own way and do his own thing. Isaiah 53:6, puts it well, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” To do the will of the Father is to know what He wants us to do, and then do it.

It begins with being saved. 1 Timothy 2:4, “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” We read also in John 6:40, And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day This is how we are to be saved. It involves turning from our own selfish will and ways to God in true repentance and trust in Christ as our Saviour from sin and self.

This turning and believing has no merit toward obtaining salvation. However, it is the way we enter into the mercy and value of the sacrifice He made for us when He gave His Son to die for us on Roman cross. This is like going to a doctor with your problems has nothing of value in his treatments of your troubles. But you must go to get the treatments.

Once you are saved then what He has done for you He will work in you to do His good pleasure. Philippians 2:13, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” He makes the salvation all of the Lord so that no flesh can glory in His presence. That no flesh should glory in his presence. (1 Corinthians 1:29)

Jesus said, “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.” John 8:24 He said, I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3. Jesus said, Repent and believe the gospel, Mark 1:15.
