SALVATION QUESTION 104
QUESTION 104
ANSWER:
If God is so holy and just how can any of us ever escape the punishment we deserve?
"For we must needs die, and are as water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him." 2 Samuel 14:14.
Sin drives man away from God, but God has devised a means of bringing back the banished. How did He do this? ".. for the Lord hath prepared a sacrifice..." Zephaniah 1:7. "...but where is the lamb for a burnt offering." Genesis 22:7. God had a way before there was a sinner. When Adam sinned, immediately God promised a "seed of the woman," (Genesis 3:15) to bring man back to Himself.
He pictured this in the slaying of an animal and making "coats of their skins," (Genesis 3:21) to cover their nakedness. This was a type of Christ who Was to come and, "put away sin by the sacrifice of himself." Hebrews 9:26. Cain and Abel both made offerings to the Lord. Cain's was the fruit of the ground, Abel's the firstlings of his flock. This was acceptable to God, because a lamb had died and sin had been covered. These all pictured the "Lord's sacrifice" to come, which was His own Son.
