PERSON OF CHRIST QUESTION 8

QUESTION 8:
Since Jesus Christ was a true human being could He have sinned?

ANSWER:
The moral glory of our Lord Jesus Christ isn't seen so much in the fact that He could or couldn't sin; but in that He wouldn't have sinned if He could have. Let us remember that though He was true man He was much more. He was God in the flesh, 1 Timothy 3:16. God was manifest in the flesh . . . " One Person with a dual nature.

There are some things God cannot do. He cannot lie, Titus 1:2. It is likewise impossible for God to sin. Since our Lord was the Lord from heaven, 1 Corinthians 15:47, and since the Lord cannot sin we must conclude that it was impossible for Him to sin. So the first reason He could not sin is because of WHO HE IS.

The second reason He could not sin is how He was born. He was miraculously conceived, Matthew 1:23. His human nature was born sinless. That which was born of her was rightly called the Son of God, Luke 1:35. That which is born of God sinneth not, John 3:9.

The third reason He could not sin is because of what is written of Him. Peter says of His deeds He did no sin. 1 Peter 2:22. Paul says of His knowledge He knew no sin. 2 Corinthians 5:21. John says of His character in Him was no sin. 1 John 3:5. There was nothing in His nature to respond to sin. He could say of Satan "The prince of this world cometh and findeth nothing [no sin] in me. This is why He could be the sin bearer for us. He was absolutely pure and undefiled even when hanging on the cross bearing our sins. Hebrews 9:14.

What have you done about Him? Have you accepted Him as your personal sin bearing Saviour yet? Why not do that and be saved today.
