QUESTION 60:
In Deuteronomy 18:15 we read, "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him shall ye hearken." Who is this Prophet?

ANSWER:
Many of the prophecies have double references, and this one is no exception.

First, the prophet was Joshua. This can be seen in, Numbers 27:18-23; Deuteronomy 31:3, He replaced Moses as leader of the people of God. He led them into the Promised Land. Secondly, it refers to Christ in His first coming. The people of Jesus' day expected Him. They asked, John whether he was "that prophet." (John 1:25). Jesus is called "that prophet" in John 6:14; and Acts 3:22-23, Peter makes it very clear, when he quoted Deuteronomy 18:15, in saying that God has raised up His Son Jesus and sent Him to bless you. (Acts 3:26). There are no further references to any other or more prophets that would arise. Many have made claims, but have no ground of support for them.

Christ was like unto Moses in his birth. Pharaoh tried to kill him when he was born. Herod tried to kill Christ when a child. (Matthew 2). Moses was hated of his brethren at the first, so was Christ. Moses was the saviour of God's people out of Egypt; so is Christ the Saviour of all that trust Him.

My dear reader, Have you acknowledge your sinfulness before God? Have you trusted that Saviour yet? Do you know for sure that heaven is your home? Religion is not enough. You must have Christ. "He that hath the Son hath life." (1 John 5:12). "To as many as received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." (John 1:12)
